LIPPO CENTRE, Hong Kong
1987
Lippo Centre was formerly known as Bond Centre and was designed in association with the late Paul Rudolph. The twin towers here aim to create a sculptural icon with a highly articulated element on the facade that spirals up each of the towers. The complimentary formal expression creates a dialogue between the two towers. The towers dominate the podium which houses a bank, retail, restaurants as well as a telephone exchange.
Admiralty Centre and Lippo Centre are two of the above sites severely constrained by the layout and requirements of the MTR station and concourse located underneath. In fact, all the foundations and basements for the superstructure of both sites have been completed at the time the sites were offered for tender or for auction. Hence the height and disposition of the twin towers on both sites were predetermined.
